From Custom to Bespoke
At first glance you wouldn't recognize it as Switzer, but upon a closer look there's no mistaking the fine bones and traditional craftsmanship, utterly transformed by our artisans. An existing frame is given an unconventional new shape or a material miracle. Stretch yourself. We're up to the job.
Sketch to Reality
Designer Sharon Bortolotto sketched her vision for Nuit, asking us to keep the Louis XVI hand-carved soulfulness, but infuse the piece with modern character. Innovative acrylic replaces the expected upholstery. The result is a whimsical chair resembling glass, ideal for a contemporary skyrise residence.

See the Forest and the Trees
Switzer understands that a grand vision depends on getting the small details just so. This mid-century Swedish chair's macassar ebony evokes a rainforest, so the design team chose to nestle the sitter in a woodland. Legs are faux-finished in a special antiqued silver leaf reminiscent of moss, the raw linen seat is embroidered with a tree-ring pattern, and a photograph of tall trees is digitally printed on the high, wraparound back.

Aubusson Dining Armchair LR1A-0108
DIMENSIONSW22.25" x D26" x H37.5"DETAILSLondon Designer Tatiana Tafur came to us with an olive wood veneer, supplied by her client, originally from a tree taken from the Palais de Versailles. The same veneer also featured in the client's dining table and a pair of cabinets. Honoured to be entrusted with such a storied material, our artisans used it on the arms of this exquisitely upholstered chair, making his dining room complete. -

Victoria and Albert Chair WS1B-0959
DESIGNERStella SunDIMENSIONSW28" x D29.5" x H39.5"DETAILSThis Chippendale armchair represents true 18th century opulence and intricate carving. Its classic Rococo style has been given a non-traditional interpretation that showcases Switzer’s potential to be cutting edge. Think orange-red lacquer peeping out from under silver leafing, with an orange-red hair-on-hide seat and chrome French nails. -

French Regency Style Chair WS1B-0900
DESIGNERChad Falkenberg & Kelly ReynoldsDIMENSIONSW27" x D29" x H38"DETAILSDauphine is what a young Marie Antoinette would own if she lived in a hip Gastown pied-a-terre. A traditional French chair has been given a progressive West Coast twist, juxtaposing formal and delicate with casual, comfortable, and rugged. Custom patchwork upholstery upcycles swatches of silk mohair and pieces of character fabrics, resulting in a Switzer level of luxury. -

Mid Century Swedish Occasional Chair WS1B-1019
DESIGNERKari Henshaw and Allisa Karvonen, Insight Design GroupDIMENSIONSW30.5" x D33" x H49.5"DETAILSThis mid-century Swedish Art Deco chair has rich tones of macassar ebony, evoking rainforest trees. The design team followed that inspiration to create a woodland seat with legs faux finished in a special antiqued silver leaf reminiscent of moss or lichen. The raw linen seat has been embroidered with a tree ring pattern, and a digitally printed photograph of tall trees on the high, wraparound chair back nestles the sitter in a forest. -

George ll Armchair WS1B-1012
DESIGNERGrace Gordon Collins, Ernest Collins ArchitectsDIMENSIONSW30" x D33.5" x H45.5"DETAILSThis chair was inspired by the designer’s first boyfriend: a Hell’s Angel wearing a black leather jacket with painted skull and crossbones. That memory intertwined with a Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, where she noticed wonderful, scary, lovely bones everywhere. The result is black leather, an airbrushed skull adorned with crystals, and silver leaf for a touch of bling: a chair for a rocker’s cave. -

Custom 893-LL French Art Deco Bench

DIMENSIONSW 47.25" x D 23.5" x H 20.5"DETAILSOne size does not fit all. This client loved the table, but wanted it resized. No problem; we made it to the designer's spec, stained it to match the sample provided, and trimmed it with genuine 24K gold leaf. -

Italian Directoire Style Two Door Bow Front Buffet
DIMENSIONSW 52" x D 20" x H 33.25"DETAILSWith veneer such a strong design detail, a customer can be understandably particular about the wood choice. This buffet is usually cherrywood, but we made it with olivewood instead, because that's what the client requested. -

Louis XVI Style Armchair WS1A-0815AR
DESIGNERSharon BortolottoDIMENSIONSW 24" x D26" x H40"DETAILSNuit expresses Switzer’s hand-carved soulfulness, but uses innovative materials to infuse modern character. Its elegance and small scale make it versatile and highly appropriate for today’s compact spaces. BBA has showcased the ornate frame and traditional craftsmanship by contrasting it with a dark grey acrylic to form the seat and back. Its companion "Jour", is a side chair in clear acrylic with a smoked grey carved frame. -

Cartagena Chest WS3D-1756
DESIGNERWilliam SwitzerDIMENSIONSW48" x D24" x H48"DETAILSThe Cartagena Chest has been reimagined for a beachfront cottage, where the zebrawood’s striking grains take on the sun-bleached appearance of driftwood and sand. We added tactile leather pulls and the drawer interiors reveal a surprise of blue: perfect summer skies, a becalmed sea, a mountain lake.
